How To Make Your Day (MUCH) More Interesting…Shoot a poor person.

Super Cool Stuff No Comments

This is a response to those people who keep asking me how come I do so much stuff. It’s easy when you think about it, and even easier if you DO something about it.

For example last weekend a gang of us went to the British Racing Drivers Club at Silverstone circuit and put on a mini burlesque show. There were the four of us and over 200 hundred guests. We took pictures, which we posted on Facebook and had people comment us about it. It was awesome! Then someone has a go at me for making the whole thing up. Riiiiight…

I guess if you browse someone’s profile and their world is completely alight with magic and crazy fun stuff, and your Fb status says “bored…innit” and there are 600 pictures of you drunk in a pub taken on mobile phones with the caption “best weekend evva!!!” then pretty soon you’re going to get either jealous, envious or curious.

So, here’s a few things to think about and few hot tips that seem to work for me.

Assuming that you live to eighty years old here’s some facts:

  • If you’re 20 years old you have 21,900 days left to live.
  • If you’re 30 years old you have 18,250 days left to live.
  • If you’re 40 years old you have 14,600 days left to live.

Now, how do YOU want to LIVE your days? You might have noticed that you get through life in DAYS so they’re a really cool thing to figure out!

Somewhere between not having been around long enough to figure out what the heck is going on (20 ish) and being old enough to work it out and do something about it (30 ish) you’re going to have to LEARN HOW TO DO THINGS.

Now if you get smart you can DO STUFF and build up a momentum that takes you on a crazy ride way outside your experience and into the worlds of very interesting people. If you don’t you become a bum and no one trusts you and you end up thinking everything is all about money and you not having any.

So here’s some hot tips about me, and me only, they might not work for you.

I started drinking heavily and became very very good at it. So I quit. Completely. It was taking me too long in a day to get drunk, have a good time being drunk and then sobering up again. It was fun for a while but it pretty soon got boring. Trouble was I was practically a full on alcoholic, so I had to come down pretty hard on myself to give up alcohol. Once I’d got that under control I decided I didn’t have time for it and that it might “get me” one day, so I just decided that alcohol was not an issue for me. My deffiniton of being an alcoholic was needing a drink even when I didn’t want one! It didn’t matter if it was stress or social pressure to drink or whatever, I just decided that it was not the way to go.

The other thing I did was to pretty much cut out TV. I always ended up watching TV because I’d get in from doing something and there’d be other people watching TV. So I’d sit down and watch TV with the other TV people who also didn’t want to watch TV. Pretty soon I found out that nobody likes what’s on TV anyway and pretty much watches it because someone else is watching it. So, I nailed that too.

So with no TV for a couple of hours a day and no pub for the evening I ended up with six to eight hours a day for me. Over a week thats 56 hours (two days) of time to DO SOMETHING INTERESTING! The end result of this is that I have nine days a week. Seven normal days and two “meta” days that I can pretty much fit in where I like. Over a year that gives me an extra 104 days over your average joes 365. SO my year is 469 days long! Thats getting on for an extra three months a year. Add up the extra days and add them to the figures in the list of days at the top and you can re organise your life to have the same useful time in it as someone who’s 10 or 20 years younger than you!

I can use that time to earn money, have adventures and do crazy stuff like learn new things and do them, or just meet and hang out with wild and crazy people who do the darndest things! For example here’s “Banbury Cross” pouring champagne all over herself in front of 200 people at the BRDC at a gala dinner. What did you do last Saturday night?

Now if you got this far here’s the BIG secret, and think about it carefully. You do NOT need MONEY or THINGS to have a good time. You only think you need those. What you actually need is to EXPERIENCE life. Now most people think that you need MONEY and THINGS to experience life, well I think thats a load of rubbish! I do not own the British Racing Drivers Club but I know a whole bunch of people who can get me into it to do something that no ones ever done in there before, like put on a burlesque performance!

You experience life through OTHER PEOPLE so you need to get good at being useful to OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. I did this by taking my idiot self centered ego outside one day and shooting myself in a mirror. “You’re DEAD you experientially poor person” I thought, and went off and met someone far more interesting instead.
